Be Mindful While Using Your Computer

One of the best preventative measures you can take against malware is common sense. If you receive strange emails you should ignore them, notice pop-ups don’t click them or are trying to install software that comes with a bunch of “browser enhancements” do not install them. Think before you open, click or even install, it could save you a lot of trouble.

Install/Run Malware Software

Another wonderful preventative measure against malware is installing anti-malware software on your device. There are a wide range of software programs available, some of them are completely free. While this won’t completely protect you, it will be helpful in the prevention of malware.

Update Your Computer/Operating System

Did you know that those computer updates can actually fix certain bugs and protect your device further? It is important to keep your Windows and Mac computer up-to-date by installing any updates that pop-up on your screen. Neglecting to keep your computer updated could put you more at risk for problems.

Be Careful About What You Download/Install

As mentioned above, certain programs can be a risk for malware. Some software programs will try to sneak in extra installations while others are completely risky on their own. Before you install anything on your computer, we recommend researching that program and whether or not anyone has experienced malware problems due to it.

Use Adblockers

Most browsers either have built-in ad blocking or have extensions that can be used to do so. Accidentally clicking ads that take you to sketchy websites, initiate downloads, etc. can be an easy way to get infected. It can often be hard to tell the difference between safe ads and ads that may harm your device.
