Restart Your Mac Computer

It may seem simple but many people forget to restart their Mac when it starts acting funny. This can often help with minor issues and we always recommend starting there.

Clean Your Mac Trackpad

Using a soft, lint-free cloth very slightly dampened with a mild alcohol solution, clean the trackpad area. Make sure that the cloth is not saturated as you do not want to cause liquid damage.

Disconnect External Devices

External devices such as a Bluetooth mouse, keyboard or other device can sometimes lead to issues with trackpads. Try disconnecting anything that plugs into your Mac device, restart it and try again.

Check Trackpad Settings

Go to Apple Menu > System Settings > Trackpad and check to see what the settings are for gestures and speed. Adjust those settings and see if that may help.

Update macOS

Run Apple Diagnostics

Turn your device off. Then either hold the D key during boot (Intel) or press and hold the power button until options appear (Silicon). This can check your device for hardware issues.

Make sure your device has not been physically damaged and that the battery looks normal and is not swelling at all.
